What Is Kilsaran Super Bond Render Used For?
Kilsaran KPRO Façade SB Super Bond is a dual-purpose preparatory rendering mortar. It is used as a key coat on difficult backgrounds and as a basecoat on internal and external walls. It is a highly polymer-modified CS IV render that complies with EN 998-1, and it can be applied by hand or by machine.
Super Bond is designed for smooth, low suction and friable backgrounds such as concrete, where ordinary renders struggle to grip. It also equalises suction on highly porous or mixed backgrounds, so the following render coats cure evenly. Once cured, it gives a strong, high-quality base for follow-on render coats.
It is factory pre-mixed, so there is no site mixing to get wrong and no additional admix needed.
Key Properties of Super Bond
- Dual purpose: preparatory key coat and basecoat
- Excellent adhesion to smooth and low suction backgrounds
- Equalises suction on porous or dissimilar backgrounds
- Low shrinkage and good crack resistance
- Compressive strength category CS IV to EN 998-1
- Class A1 reaction to fire
- Suitable for internal and external use
- Hand or machine application, no additional admix needed
- Supplied in a 25kg premixed bag
Typical Applications
- Key coat on smooth, low suction and friable backgrounds such as concrete
- Equalising suction on highly porous or dissimilar backgrounds
- Durable basecoat applied onto approved render carrier boards
- Durable scud coat or spatterdash on render cores
How Much Does a 25kg Bag of Super Bond Cover?
| 3mm thickness | approx. 4.60m² per 25kg bag |
| 4mm thickness | approx. 3.50m² per 25kg bag |
| 5mm thickness | approx. 2.75m² per 25kg bag |
Mixing and Application
Mix in a suitable mixer or with a paddle drill, using 5.75–6.0 litres of clean water per 25kg bag to produce a creamy rendering mortar. For a scud coat or spatterdash, use 6.5–6.75 litres of water.
- As a key coat: apply a tight 4–5mm coat and stipple it into the surface with a hand brush.
- As a basecoat on smooth, dense masonry and concrete: apply a tight 4–5mm coat and key it with a plastering comb.
- As a basecoat on render carrier board: apply a tight 2mm coat, trowel alkali-resistant mesh cloth into the entire area, then apply a further 2–3mm of Super Bond and trowel the surface ready for the finish coat.
Apply at temperatures between +5°C and +30°C. For full guidance, refer to the Kilsaran KPRO Façade Information & Best Practice Guide and the technical data sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Super Bond be used on smooth concrete?
Yes. Super Bond is designed to provide a key coat on smooth, low suction and friable backgrounds such as concrete, so the next render coat bonds properly.
Can Super Bond be used on render carrier board?
Yes. Apply a 2mm coat, embed alkali-resistant mesh cloth across the whole area, then apply a further 2–3mm and trowel ready for the finish coat.
What is the difference between Super Bond and QPX?
Super Bond is a cement-based key coat and basecoat applied 4–5mm thick. KPRO QPX Bonding Primer is a ready-to-use, roller-applied liquid bonding primer for absorbent and non-absorbent surfaces.
What render goes over Super Bond?
Once cured, Super Bond provides a strong base for follow-on render coats such as KPRO OCR One Coat Render.
