What Is Kilsaran S-SR 1.5 Silicate-Silicone Render Used For?
Kilsaran KPRO S-SR 1.5mm Silicate-Silicone Render is a premixed, thin-coat wet render that gives a smooth, even textured finish on external walls. This hybrid formulation is through-coloured and provides a long-lasting, durable, breathable façade finish with low water absorption.
S-SR 1.5 is suitable for external wall insulation (EWI) systems, concrete, render carrier board, cement-based renders and gypsum plasters. It is formulated to protect against biological contamination such as fungi, mould and algae, and resists dirt pick-up for a low-maintenance finish.
It can be applied by hand or by machine and is available in a large range of colours.
Key Properties of S-SR 1.5
- 1.5mm hybrid silicate-silicone thin-coat render
- Suitable for EWI systems and a wide range of substrates
- Hydrophobic, with low water absorption (W3)
- Good vapour permeability (V1) – a breathable finish
- Weather resistant with good colour stability
- Resistant to dirt pick-up, fungi, algae and mould
- Large colour range
- Hand or machine application
- Supplied in a 25kg bucket made from 62% recycled plastic
Substrate Preparation
The surface must be smooth, dry and clean, free from grease, bitumen, dust and anything else that reduces adhesion:
- Cement and lime-cement plasters: at least 28 days old, moisture ≤ 4%
- Concrete: at least 3 months old, moisture ≤ 4%, primed with KPRO Quartz Primer QP10
- Reinforced basecoats: primed with KPRO Quartz Primer QP10
For a basecoat beneath thin-coat render, see KPRO OCR One Coat Render.
How to Apply S-SR 1.5
Stir the whole bucket thoroughly. Apply evenly with a steel float held at an angle, to the thickness of the 1.5mm grain, then texture with a plastic float in uniform round movements. S-SR 1.5 can also be spray applied, taking care around obstructions such as scaffolding. Work wet on wet, one surface at a time without breaks, using the same product batch. Do not sprinkle the render with water.
Apply at ambient and substrate temperatures between +5°C and +25°C with humidity below 80%. Protect from rain until fully dry; scaffold sheeting is recommended. Winter working additives are available for colder conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a 25kg bucket of S-SR 1.5 cover?
At a consumption of approx. 2.5 kg/m², one 25kg bucket covers approximately 10m².
What primer do I need for S-SR 1.5?
Kilsaran specifies KPRO Quartz Primer QP10 on concrete and reinforced basecoats before applying S-SR 1.5.
Is S-SR 1.5 suitable for external wall insulation?
Yes. S-SR 1.5 can be used as the finishing coat on external wall insulation systems.
Which is better, SR 1.5 or S-SR 1.5?
Both are 1.5mm thin-coat renders with the same application method and the same EN 15824 water absorption (W3) and vapour permeability (V1) classes. SR 1.5 is a silicone render that Kilsaran describes as highly self-cleaning and highly elastic. S-SR 1.5 is a hybrid silicate-silicone render with good vapour permeability and colour stability.
