What Is Kilsaran QPX Bonding Primer Used For?
Kilsaran KPRO Façade QPX Bonding Primer is a quartz-infused, high-performance and fast-setting bonding primer. It comes pre-mixed and is based on a solvent-free acrylate formulation, so it is ready to use straight from the bucket.
QPX works on both absorbent and non-absorbent surfaces, indoors and outdoors. It leaves a textured, gritty finish that greatly improves the adhesion of the render that follows, and provides an optimal base for KPRO GP Render and KPRO UNO.
It acts as both a bonding agent and a sealant, which makes it a practical choice for preparing difficult or mixed backgrounds before rendering.
Key Properties of QPX
- Quartz-infused bonding primer with a textured, gritty finish
- For absorbent and non-absorbent surfaces
- Suitable for interior and exterior use
- Fast setting and ready to use
- Solvent-free, low VOC (≤10g/L)
- Breathable
- Suitable for single or multi coat render applications
- Covers approx. 70–85m² per 20kg bucket
Suitable Substrates
QPX is compatible with cement, plasters, plasterboard, fibreboard, brickwork, concrete, limestone, tiles, steel and glass. Do not use it on surfaces that will be exposed to permanent or prolonged water.
How to Apply QPX
- Make sure the substrate is rigid, level, clean, dry and structurally sound, with dirt, oil, grease, laitance, sealers, waxes and curing agents removed
- Stir thoroughly before use and apply with a roller
- Non-absorbent surfaces: apply undiluted for maximum adhesion
- Absorbent surfaces: dilute 1:1 with water for better penetration
At +15°C and 50% relative humidity, QPX dries in approx. 60 minutes on absorbent surfaces and approx. 120 minutes on non-absorbent surfaces. On absorbent surfaces the next layer can be applied while the primer is still fresh. On non-absorbent surfaces such as tiles, steel and glass, let the primer dry fully first.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can QPX be used on tiles or glass?
Yes. QPX is suitable for non-absorbent surfaces including tiles, steel and glass. Apply it undiluted and allow it to dry fully before rendering.
How far does a 20kg bucket of QPX go?
Approximately 70–85m², based on a consumption of 235–280 g/m² depending on the substrate.
Which renders is QPX used with?
QPX provides an optimal base for KPRO GP Render and KPRO UNO. For priming before thin-coat silicone renders, Kilsaran specifies KPRO QP10 Quartz Primer.
